Storioni Trio
The Storioni Trio has established itself as one of the leading Dutch chamber music ensembles, with concerts in Carnegie Hall (Weill Recital Hall), Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall and the most prestigious European Festivals. The Trio has worked with, among others, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the RTE Orchestra Dublin and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Antwerp. The recordings by the Storioni Trio, for the Pentatone label, have received great international acclaim.
The members of the trio are artistic directors of the annual Storioni Festival in the Netherlands, during which they perform with colleagues from around the world like Gidon Kremer, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Vladimir Mendelssohn, the Skampa Quartet and many others. In addition, the Storioni Festival presents an educational program (Storioni Academy) as well as a yearly commission for a new work for piano trio.

All this holds true for the more popular “Ghost” Trio. Here, especially, pianist Bart van de Roer calls Joseph Kalichstein to mind insofar as he expertly puts his part across without letting Beethoven goad him into bullying his partners. Later, the musicians bring weight to the slow movement without putting a drag on the performance. This is a most impressive calling card for the Storioni Trio.

The Storioni Trio was founded in 1995 by Bart van de Roer (piano), Wouter Vossen (violin) and Marc Vossen (cello). The trio derives its name from the Laorentius Storioni violin from Cremona, which dates from 1794 and is played by Wouter Vossen. Marc Vossen plays a Giovanni Grancino cello from Milan, dating from 1700. In order to develop its ensemble-playing, the trio has worked over the years with great musicians such as Isaac Stern, Mstislav Rostropovich, Menahem Pressler, and Ralph Kirshbaum, as well as members of the Emerson Quartet and the Vermeer Quartet.
The Storioni Trio offers an expansive repertoire ranging from Haydn and Mozart via Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Ravel and Shostakovich, to exciting works by contemporary composers. Composer Kevin Volans wrote a triple concerto for the 10th anniversary of the Storioni Trio. The trio has received various prizes and awards, and performs regularly on radio and television. The CDs recorded by the Storioni Trio Amsterdam have all received great critical acclaim.
The Storioni Trio performs chamber music with artists such as Gidon Kremer, Dimitri Sitkovetsky, Jean-Ives Thibaudet, Rainer Kussmaul, Nobuko Imai, Vladimir Mendelssohn, Elisabeth von Magnus, Marina Shaguch, Emma Johnson, and Herve Joulain. Also, the Trio has been invited to play as soloists with the Münchner Kammerorchester, Musikkolegium Winterthur, the RTE Orchestra Irland, the Royal Flemish Philharmonic Orchestra and Orchestre de Chambre de Wallonie.
The Storioni Trio regularly performs at all major venues in the Netherlands, such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Doelen concert hall in Rotterdam, and the Muziekcentrum Vredenburg in Utrecht. The trio is Artistic director of the ‘ Storioni Festival’ at the Muziekcentrum Frits Philips in Eindhoven of which the 2nd edition will take place in January 2009. Guest musicians from all over the world will join the trio for a festival during which unique chamber music programmes with top international musicians as well as upcoming talented musicians of the highest calibre are presented.
On an international level, the trio is also highly active, giving concerts at the most important music centres in the world, such as the Weill Recital Hall (Carnegie Hall), the Frick Collection in New York, and the Wigmore Hall in London. Moreover, the trio regularly performs at various festivals a.o. Kuhmo Chambermusic Festival and Osnabruck Kammermusiktage, gives concerts throughout Europe, and goes on tour to India, the Middle East, Japan and the United States.

Das Storioni Trio Amsterdam wurde 1995 gegründet und dankt seinen Namen der 1764 von Laurentius Storioni aus Cremona gebauten Violine, die von Wouter Vossen bespielt wird. Das Instrument von Marc Vossen ist ein Violoncello von Giovanni Grancino, Mailand 1700.
Im Laufe der Jahre hat das Trio sein Ensemblespiel erweitert, unter anderem mit Mitgliedern vom Emerson Kwartet, Vermeer Kwartet und Altenberg Trio Wien, und mit Größen wie Isaac Stern, Mstistlav Rostropovich, Menahem Pressler und Ralph Kirshbaum zusammengespielt.
Das Storioni Trio Amsterdam verfügt über ein sehr breites Repertoire, das von Haydn und Mozart über Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Ravel und Schostakovitsch bis zu den Werken moderner Komponisten reicht. Das Trio kann auch regelmäßig im Radio oder Fernsehen gehört werden.
Vor kurzem hat das Label Pentatone Classics (www.pentatonemusic.com) die erste CD einer CD-Reihe mit dem Trio herausgegeben, gespielt werden die Trios Opus 1/ Nr. 2 & Opus 70/ Nr. “Geistertrio” von Beethoven. Dieses weltweit operierende Label ist wegen der qualitativ hochwertigen Aufzeichnungen bekannt (in SACD). Außerdem hat das Storioni Trio Amsterdam seit 1998 bereits fünf CDs in eigener Verwaltung herausgebracht, die von der Presse ausnahmslos ausgezeichnet besprochen wurden. Die CDs enthalten unter anderem Werke von Mozart, Brahms und Ives (STA 010101-1998), die vollständigen Klaviertrios von Schostakovitsch (STA 020202-2000), Trios von Tschaikowsky und Rachmaninow (STA 030303-2001) und Werke von Dvorak. Die vierte CD mit Werken von Schumann wurde in der letzten Saison herausgegeben.
Das Storioni Trio Amsterdam gibt sehr regelmäßig Konzerte auf allen wichtigen Podien in den Niederlanden, wie im Concertgebouw in Amsterdam (für Abonnement-Serien und Sponsors, wie Robeco), im Concertgebouw de Doelen in Rotterdam und im Muziekcentrum Vredenburg in Utrecht. Auch auf internationaler Ebene ist das Trio sehr aktiv, wie Konzerte in den wichtigsten Musikzentren der Welt, wie beispielsweise in der Weill Recital Hall (Carnegie Hall) in New York und der Wigmore Hall in London (jede Saison in den letzten 4 Jahren), und Tourneen durch Belgien, Indien, den Mittleren Osten, Japan und die Vereinigten Staaten zeigen. 2004 traten sie in den USA auf, unter anderem auf Einladung der Frick Collection in New York. Im Januar 2004 war das Trio mit dem Münchner Kammer Orchester unterAlexander Liebreich mit dem Tripelkonzert von Ludwig van Beethoven in den Niederlanden auf Tournee.
Vor kurzem spielte das Storioni Trio Amsterdam in der Welturaufführung des Triple Concerto des englischen Komponisten Kevin Volans mit dem Noord Nederlands Orkest und dann mit der Philharmonie van Antwerpen. Anlässlich des zehnjährigen Jubiläums erschien das Trio neulich in der niederländischen TV-Sendung Vrije Geluiden.
Zukünftige Engagements sind, neben vielen Konzerten in den Niederlanden (u.a. die Trio-Serie im Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Rotterdam), Tourneen durch Belgien, Luxemburg, ferner Deutschland, Tschechien, England (u.a. das Festival von Guernsey) und eine Tournee durch die Vereinigten Staaten und Canada.
Das vierte Storioni Festval findet statt von 20-ten bis 30-ten januar 2011 im Eindhoven.

Large répertoire
Le Storioni Trio a un très large répertoire, allant de Haydn jusqu’à Mozart et de Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Ravel, Shostakovich jusqu’aux oeuvres excitantes des compositeurs modernes. Le trio se produit regulièrement à la radio et à la télévision.
Longue série de disques
Le premier d’une longue série de disques vient d’être édité par le label Pentatone Classics (www.pentatonemusic.com), comprenant les trios op.1, op. 2 et opus 70 no. 1 « Geister Trio » de Beethoven. Depuis 1998 le Storioni Trio a édité cinq disques, tous -sans aucune exception- ayant reçus un grand enthousiasme de la presse. Les disques comprennent –pour ne citer quelques- des oeuvres de Mozart, Brahms et Ives, l’oeuvre complète des trios pour piano de Shostakovitch, les trios de Tsjaikovsky et Rachmaninov et des oeuvres de Dvorak et Schumann. Récemment leur disque Schubert (Trio’s no. 1 et 2, opus 99 et 100) a paru, ayant aussi reçu des critiques très positives. Bientôt leur disque entièrement dédié à l’œuvre de Brahms paraîtra.
10ème anniversaire et Storioni Festival
Récemment, le Storioni Trio s’est produit avec la première mondiale du Triple Concerto du compositeur Anglais Kevin Volans, avec le Noord Nederlands Orkest et ensuite avec la Philharmonie d’Anvers. À l’occasion de leur 10ème anniversaire, la télévision Néerlandaise les a invités pour une rétrospective. Cette saison le trio était invité par le gouvernement Néerlandais pour un récital à Shanghai dans le cadre d’une exposition organisée par le Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. Le trio a aussi participé au 17ème édition du Festival d’Arts à Saint-Cyprien (Pyrenées Orientales). Le premier édition de leur propre festival de musique à Eindhoven c’est passé avec le plus grand succès. Un des invités était Gidon Kremer !
Prochains engagements
Principaux prochains engagements: grande tournée en Indonésie, des concerts en Suisse, en Allemagne et aux Pays-Bas. Pour le 2ème édition de leur festival en 2009 le trio a invité le pianiste Jean-Yves Thibaudet.
Le 4ème édition de leur festival sera en 20 jusqu'à 30. janvier 2011.
